Hurricane FLORENCE Update:
The National Weather Service Has Lowered the probability Of strike for our
Area here, However We must remain Diligent and continue to stay abreast of
the storm.
The following is a excerpt from Our EOC Division Chief Al Jeffery III:
Good afternoon, we just completed the 1130 Statewide Weather call and we
have some better news for Maryland. The track of Florence has turned
slightly to the SW and will make landfall sometime Thursday night Friday
morning along the North Carolina South Carolina border. Florence will then
slow and stall in that region for 24-48 hours then turn North and head
towards us, but will lose most of it strength. Calvert should start seeing
rain and increased wind speeds Friday afternoon evening time range. We
should feel the remnants Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday next week depending
on storm speed.
While the threat from Florence for the majority of Maryland has been
reduced, Southern MD, due to its location, could still see some higher
impacts, although reduced from initial estimates, than the rest of the
state. We can expect to receive rain in the 3” to 5” range through the
weekend with possible higher accumulations in some areas, The winds are not
expected to reach tropical force, 39mph-73mph, but could be as high as
30mph through the weekend. With the additional rain adding to the totals we
have received recently we will see some continued flooding in the low lying
areas of the county. Expect higher than normal tides at about +2’-3’ above
normal for the remainder of the week and into early next week and a 2’ to
3’ storm surge along the bays coastline.
While the forecast less rain and winds is better we will continue our
planning to prepare in the event there is a change in the forecast. We have
weather calls scheduled for the remainder of the week and weekend at 1130am
and I will update all after those calls.
