I attended a SET planning meeting today along with Jim, K3UGA and Dave, KB3RAN.
The general scenario for this year's SET (Saturday Oct 7 beginning a 9:00 am) is preparation for recovery from a hurricane predicted to impact Ocean City, MD. The exercise will also include locating a special needs child (ADS) who has become lost but has a tracking beacon. In other words, a fox hunt in the area of the Ocean City boardwalk.
I'll forward a link to the meeting slides once I receive them.
Our SEC would like to establish three command posts using RV's or trailers. Dave, KB3RAN, volunteered to be one of those RV command posts located near the Worcester County EOC in Snow Hill, MD. Other command posts at/near the Atlantic General Hospital and the Ocean City area.
A basic assumption is that all area repeaters are down. Communications will be HF/VHF/UHF simplex. Both voice and digital (Winlink) traffic support will be needed. Traffic will need to be passed between Ocean City, Snow Hill, MEMA and other locations. The distance between Snow Hill and Ocean City is about 20 miles so VHF/UHF simplex will likely need relays, or use HF NVIS.
If you would like to participate by deploying to the eastern shore, joining Dave at his RV command post, the fox hunt or in another capacity, please let me know.
The exercise has a bit of chaos and uncertainty programmed into it so real-time changes are likely.
OBTW...the meeting was held at the Anne Arundel EOC in Glen Burnie. The Anne Arundel ARES has a VERY impressive presence at the EOC, with a separate radio room adjoining the EOC operations room, housing multiple VHF/UHF voice and packet stations and a full KW HF station. Six multi-band VHF/UHF antennas on the roof plus inverted V's for 40M, 80M and a SteppIR dipole for the higher bands.
A final unrelated note:
