[CALV-AUXCOMM] [New post] March 18th Exercise Plan

Jim,

Yes, I put 1.5.0.0 on the K3's computer hard drive. But this morning my s/w updated to 1.5.1.0. That version does not appear on their download site.

No need to worry about the templates. Starting in late 2016 the templates are updated automatically when Winlink Express is updated or installed. See https://www.winlink.org/content/all_standard_templates_folders_update_zip_version_3142017

But I copied the latest template .zip file onto a stick just in case.

This morning I used my home station with K3CAL's info and password to successfully send a Winmor message via a gateway in Virginia. So I think everything is OK on the Winlink system side. But Jim's initial draft of the plan had Calvert using N3AE as the WL2K call sign, not K3CAL. I already told him about that (and other) errors so we'll have to see if an updated plan comes in before Saturday.

Regarding the 440 link system....I can hit the 447.075 linked repeater from my house with the low antenna, so I think we can hit it from the Mt Hope. What I may do is set my Kenwood D700 in the car up as a cross band repeater and relay 447.075 into our room on a 2M simplex channel. I'm not sure if that antenna on the roof at Mt Hope is just 2M or a dual band, but we need it for the 2M packet anyway, so a cross-band repeat out of the car might be the best solution. The alternative is to temporarily put up a 440 antenna on the back side of the building where we have an unused coax exiting and bring a 440 rig. I noticed that WB3KAS likes to use that linked system for coordination during exercises. Did that for SET as well as the quarterly hospital drills.

Depending on the WX, I may go up this afternoon for a little while to see what I can get done. SMECO is changing out a power transformer up the street tomorrow between 1 and 3 and we're going to lose power, so I want to be back here when it's out to keep the wood stove going.

Shawn, I remember you stated last week you had left a copy of the latest new copy of winlink express on the computer we are going to use in the radio room MHCC. I seem to remember a short while after the set, Wanda or Jim Montgomery emailed a set of new forms templates to be used in winmore. I will try to look up that email today, but it may be easier to contact Jim to send that to you (us- Auxcom) again with directions on installing them in the templates folder. We should try to have that in place with the winlink 1.5.0 update for Saturday. We may get some "forms" sent to us!
I read the exercise and realized I only installed those templates on my home computer, not my laptop!
You mentioned you corrected our location address, but why are we on the CMRG 440 linking system? And can we be?
I have a power wire and connector for the digipeater, but could not find a rack mount shelf. Weather permitting I can bring that up to MHCC tomorrow, but we may need both radios for the exercise using the same antenna, we may need a diplexer? and some coax jumpers?

Sent from my iPad,
Best Regards, 73,
Jim Tetlow
