This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and adjacent counties in central Maryland and northern Virginia as well as the District of Columbia. .


DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Saturday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorm with heavy rain are expected. Flash flooding is likely. Gusty winds or an isolated tornado are possible as well, including over the tidal Potomac and Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay. .


DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday A Flash Flood Watch continues through Saturday afternoon. A Gale Warning may be needed for portions of the waters Saturday afternoon through Saturday night.


SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation may be needed this afternoon through Saturday.


FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON... The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect.


* Through Saturday afternoon *


Low pressure will develop over the Mid Atlantic today and move slowly off the coast through Saturday. This system will have the potential to bring 3 inches or more of rain to the region through Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms could cause locally higher rainfall amounts. * Heavy rainfall may result in rapid rises in streams and creeks. This could quickly result in flooding...especially in low lying and poor drainage areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
