October's meeting was held at the County Services Building in Prince Frederick with ten members present.  We reviewed the Joaquin operation ( https://ares.k3cal.org/2015/10/01/alert-hurricane-joaquin-and-pre/ ) and the ShakeOut exercise ( https://ares.k3cal.org/2015/10/14/shakeout-exercise/ ) .  We also discussed a new net, a new HF frequency, and a channel naming schema:
New Training Net
I want to start a new training net where we can test our skills and play with new technology to determine their usefulness in an emergency operation.  A few weeks ago I asked everyone to provide their availability ( http://whenisgood.net/calvert_auxcomm_net ) for this new net.  I'll give everyone through the weekend to put their availability on the schedule but I'm thinking Thursday evenings around 8:30P or 9:00P seems to work best.  I encourage everyone to provide their input so we can find the best time.
New HF Frequency
For years the 10-meter frequency for CALV has been 28.350MHz.  There is nothing wrong with this frequency but it was determined that by moving the frequency to 28.310MHz we could make it faster/easier to move to below 28.300MHz for digital operations.

Effective immediately, we'll move our HF voice frequency from 28.350MHz to 28.310MHz (+/- for activity) and establish a data frequency of 28.290MHz.  The frequency list ( https://ares.k3cal.org/communications/frequencies/ ) will be updated to reflect this change.
Channel Naming Schema
Within the Maryland-DC (MDC) section a naming schema has been put in place to standardize the county abbreviations (Calvert being CALV).  Further a channel naming schema has been put in place to help standardize channel names.

Simply put, our channels will have a designation of CALV followed by a number.  Our primary channel, the Sunderland repeater, will be CALV01 and we'll continue on from there naming each channel.  It's not required for everyone to use this naming schema but it may simplify things during an operation.  The frequency list ( https://ares.k3cal.org/communications/frequencies/ ) will be updated to add these designators.
November Meeting
I'm hoping to hold the November meeting down in Lusby like we did last November.  I may have a presentation on using APRS in emergencies but am open to other ideas (especially if someone wants to do something else).  Be watching the website for more information on the November meeting.

Thank you!
