October was quite busy for Calvert ARES. Preparation for this year's SET was canceled due to Hurricane Joaquin and the pre-rain event (PRE) that occurred. The on-shore winds brought minor flooding to parts of Calvert County and we activated in the stand-by mode for most of the three-day event. A net was formally called twice to collect observations for the National Weather Service but otherwise we kept a twenty-four hour watch on CALV01 (Sunderland 146.985MHz repeater) for any emergency reports.

We also participated in the 2015 Global ShakeOut Exercise which supported earthquake preparedness. A brief net was called and damage reports were accepted. Included in these reports was a formal Radiogram requesting supplies for the Solomons area of the county.

Calvert ARES, in addition to other local hams, supported two public service events. The first was the CFC Bike Ride where six members, plus ten others, helped provide safety and support communications for the event. Immediately following the CFC event was the PRAD parade in Solomons. The PRAD parade was supported by five members whom provided coordination communication for the event.

Calvert Amateur Radio Association (CARA) completed the fund raising needed to move the CALV02 (444.950MHz) repeater to the Maryland SHA tower in Prince Frederick. Additional tuning to the system needs to happen but the repeater already covers the county better (and provides good coverage to the west as well). Many thanks to all the CARA members that put in many hours to make this happen. Calvert County Public Safety also replaced the aging antenna on CALV01 and it now has better coverage as well. Thanks to Bill Hacket, N3XMZ, for helping to coordinate this project. Also, CALV09 was moved from 28.350MHz to 28.310MHz to make it easier to tune to the new CALV10 channel (28.290MHz) which was established to support NBEMS communication modes. All frequencies are available at https://ares.k3cal.org/communications/frequencies/.
