Meetings: Third Tuesday of the month at 150 Main Street, Prince Frederick, MD
The month of June saw ARES, and other CARA club members, preparing for Field Day. Club members put together six stations and we stayed on the air for the entire 24 hours except for about 90 minutes when we were tornado warned. ARES members were well represented at Field Day and we were happy that we were not needed for the tornado event.
June also saw us preparing for a Radiological Sheltering exercise where the county put their sheltering plan in place to detect contaminated people and vehicles and how to shelter anyone that needed it. We setup a cross-band repeater to help us to get into the Central Area repeater (Davidsonville 147.105) and to also back up our current repeater should it fail. We activated not only the shelter but also the health department. The health department gear was tested and a couple messages were transmitted out using Winlink. Unfortunately we didn't take full advantage of the opportunity to do send training messages over the air. This will be tested next time. We did establish communications with ANAR ARES members via the 105 repeater so that portion of our exercise was a success. More information will follow in an after action report and the July monthly report.
That is all from CALV. Until next time...
73,
Eric Christensen, W4OTN/3
