I don't know what you have planned for the ARES meeting next week, but I would like to suggest that all of us who have BBHN nodes bring them to demonstrate the powere of meshing.
73,
Karl, KG1L

Still want to see, maybe I could build antennas so Routers would be more affordable (have some comcast dishes and tin cans! Haha).May be able to talk at ARES meeting. Line of sight is pretty limited in most of Calvert, unless antenna very high.

I went to the MARC meeting inRockville last week. I am glad I did. It was the first time my mesh nodes had ever met any other nodes, and the joined right in.All I had to do wasturn them on. As advertised, they automatically connected to all the other nodes there (except for Jesse's, I'll explain later).
I heartily recommend thatanyone interested in broadband (private internet)networking, seeKeith's (KB3TCB) presentation. It will probably be the same one he presented in Rockville, updated with feedback from that meeting.
If you have a node already set up, by all meanstake it to the meeting so it can join in the network. If you have a node that is not yet configured, fix thatandtake your node as well. (If you need help, ask me) Takeexternal antennas if you have any, even if you cannotyet connect to your node (don't have feed line).
I am planning to go to the AARC meeting. I will bringtwo (or three) nodes, an access point (bring yourlaptop or mobile device to connect to the mesh wirelessly), a web server and several antennas I have built over the years.
I promised to explain about Jesse (WB2IFS). His non-standard nodes didnot automatically connect to all the others.
Jesselives inClinton, MD, and has been doing the HSMM-Mesh for quite awhile. He knows quite a bit about it.His nodes did not mesh with ours because he had configured his differently, since the meshers in PGARC were experimenting with a different setup. After we figured out what waswrong, as quick fix made it work. As a result of that situation, Iexpect that they will reconsider that configuration.
This is a great opportunity tolearn more about hsmm over ham radio for everyone, and a chancefor all of us with hsmm nodes to play mesh with others.

This is closer than going to Rockville if you have some interest. Meeting is March 20 @ 19:30 local. See below for full description and contacts.

*Broadband-Hamnet?* (formerly known as HSMM-Mesh?) is a high speed, self
discovering, self configuring, fault tolerant, wireless computer network. Its
primary focus is on emergency communications. Equipment to built the network
is off-the-shelf, low-cost, commodity wireless routers which have been
re-flashed with new firmware. When a number of these boxes are turned on,
they automatically form a network much like (but separate from) the larger
internet. When this happens, any normal internet data can be passed between
the nodes, such as web cameras, VoIP and text messaging.
...*Club Meetings* are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month from
7:30 to 9PM at the clubhouse located at the Davidsonville Family Recreation
Center in Davidsonville, MD
