Our Talbot County ARES Emergency Coordinator, Bob Luff, has advised that they have been put on notice for the impending possible storm headed this way.  While not activated yet, there is concern.  Bob is a member of my Maryland-DC Section Emergency Coordinator team.

I have posted this on our ARES/RACES information reflector and neighboring counties (Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's) to keep our radio operators advised in the region.

Should the coastal regions on the Eastern Shore be effected by the storm, radio operators would be requested from the Maryland counties and the District of Columbia as mutual aid support to move in while the population on the shore takes care of families and personal business.  If we are not affected, Prince George's ARES would be one of the responding emergency communications teams.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Hello all ARES & RACES Stations

Please read the attached email from Clay Stamp, Talbot County Emergency Director about the predicted possible close path of what could be the season's first Category 1 hurricane.  

As predicted now, the Cat 1 hurricane could pass just off the Atlantic coast line by Ocean City this Friday-Saturday.  But these are early predictions made while it's still forming and tropical storm status.  If it remains no worse than Cat 1 and stays 75+ miles East of Talbot County, it would have minimal impact here... thunderstorms & gusty winds maybe to 30 kts from NE.  (This usually means little/ no storm surge tides because an East passage causes a NE wind which blows water out of the Bay)

But as we know, these predictions can change quickly and with the event horizon only 3 days away... all ARES & RACES volunteers are asked to pay close attention to forecast updates and further updates from Clay, which I will forward.  Also, it is recommended that you take this opportunity to inventory/ prepare your Emergency Go-Bag and refresh/ seasonalize it for Summer condition needs (bug spray, Sun block, sunglasses, extra water, as well as all your normal personal and equipment items.  Make sure all your spare batteries are recharged.  

Please plan for a brief Joint ARES/ RACES NET WEDNESDAY at 2000 local time (8p).

  Just a general heads up and hopefully the only message concerning this matter...

  The National Hurricane Center is watching a disturbance 110 NM East of Melbourne Florida which may develop into a tropical system and track up the east coast... All models at this time are showing the system remaining east of the DELMARVA coast. This being said we may have rain a threat mid to late week...
