Hello All.

 

Severe weather season looks like it about to get a big kick over the next
few days.  Stay safe!

 

The threat time table for severe thunderstorms/tornados appears to be
tomorrow/Wed. starting as early as 3/4am? through Wed night.  Listen to
local weather forecast as new reports become available.

 

Now is the time to prepare your family, home and ham radio equipment.
Charge batteries and ensure your equipment is in good working order.  Fill
vehicles with gasoline.  If you have turned your Hazard Weather Radios OFF
remember to turn it back ON.  We all need as much warning as possible
especially at night for severe weather conditions.

If there is damages to roofs beware that driving conditions may be limited
with all the roofing nails on roadways.

 

*Hazard Weather Radios with S,A,M.E. >>> code for Calvert County is 024009.
S.A.M.E stands for Specific Area Message Encoder > NWS selects those county
codes in direct danger so not every county receives hazard broadcast.  Only
those counties in danger.  

 

It is highly recommended every CALV-ARES station have one of these types of
radios.  There are over 30 hazards, not all are weather related.  Includes
both natural and man-made events. Hazard Weather Radios with S.A.M.E. will
send warning tones to jurisdiction(s) in direct danger.   National Weather
Service and Department of Homeland Security recommends households to have
Hazard Weather Radios with S.A.M.E..

The next SKYWARN meeting will be at NWS Sterling, 43858 Weather Service
Road, Sterling, Virginia  at 10am on Saturday, May 10th.  Since this a
Government facility one would need to notify NWS ahead of time that you are
attending.  Otherwise, you cannot get pass the security gate.
