[CALV-ARES] Girl Scout Event in Hughesville, Saturday, May 4, 2013

Today's event was a fun and successful event.  There were over 100 Girl
Scouts that attended the event.  We assisted CCARC demonstrating the
usefulness of ham radio if normal communications are not available.  One HF
and one UHF Station was setup using battery and solar power.  The girls took
turns talking over the radio contacting hams located on the LaPlata
repeater.  They walked away knowing ham radio can be used for emergency
communications.  Also, a demonstration on how to find zombies which was the
theme for today using a fox hunting transmitter and an HT.  

Overall, it was a fun event and rewarding in the fact we worked with CCARA
promoting ham radio.
