PGRE will be hosting MS Bike Ride on June 8 & 9. Anyone wanting to
participate with this PS Event please contact Jim Montgomery/WB3KAS. Also,
please let me know. Jim's email about the event is posted below.

Right now, I plan on being one of the Rest Stop Stations again this year.

These cycle events are the best training for emergency communications you
will experience. Operating on battery power for hours with portable antenna
is an experience in itself. There is a real need to communicate to NCS for
bicycle support. There may be a bicycle needing repair along the route and
you need to contact NCS so a repair vehicle can assist the cyclist. Or a
cyclist may need a ride back to the START/FINISH Line. There are countless
examples of that Rest Stop Stations need to communicate to NCS that makes
this type of event a good experience operating remotely.

When the event is finished there is a rewarding value knowing you
accomplished several hours of radio time to make the cycle event a success.
They need us to have a successful cycle event.

Subject: MS Bike Ride 2013

Greetings!

I saved the list of emails from last year's bike ride in order to ask all of
you this year to come out and. . .do it again.

We have an additional rest stop to deal with and that makes for 20 operators
this year plus the need for an APRS operator. What the heck is that? So
glad you asked.

During the after-action meeting last year, the topic of keeping track of the
SAG wagons came up. It was difficult, if not impossible, for the command
center to know where they were at any given time. I mentioned that we could
put trackers on the vehicles and report their location in real time. They
asked if we could do it, and I said yes. I have located four D710 radios
with tracking capabilities. I have no idea how many they were thinking of,
but at least we can track four wagons. I need someone to keep on eye on
them at the command center and let us know where they are.

So far I have three operators who have volunteered. I would like to know
one way or the other if you can make it or not so I can see where I have to
go to get additional operators. If you wish to be in the same location as
last year, you wish will be granted. The date is June 8 and 9.

It's a little over two weeks away and I have lots to do to prepare for the
event. Write the plan, make maps, brief the committee, etc. I would
appreciate a quick response and whether you can support both days or not.

tnx es 73, de

Jim
