Subject: Winlink2000 Training Class this Saturday, Aug 24

On October 4-5 the Maryland-DC Section will be holding our yearly
Simulated Emergency Test (SET) designed by Section Emergency
Coordinator Jim Montgomery, WB3KAS.

With Winlink2000 playing a large role in the interoperability part of
the SET, Jim will be holding a hands on training session this Saturday
at the Prince George's County Emergency Operations Center at 6820
Webster Street, West Landover Hills, MD, 20784, beginning at 0900.

If you would like to attend to learn about how to use Winlink2000 and
Winmoor for email over radio, please let him know via email at:
<wb3kas at aol.com>.

Instructions from Jim, WB3KAS:

Please bring a laptop with RMS Express downloaded on it. We can save
some time if everyone downloads and unzips the latest RMS Express file.
You can install it ahead of time if you'd like, BUT HOLD OFF ON THE
CONFIGURATION OPTIONS until the class session. . .please.

Go to: ftp://autoupdate.winlink.org/User%20Programs/

and select: RMS_ Express_setup_1-2-13-0.zip. Download to a temp
folder where the extraction will take place.

Also, you need to know your six digit grid square.

Go to: http://www.levinecentral.com/ham/grid_square.php and use your
call sign as an input value. DO NOT USE ZIP CODE. It will be wrong
for some, as not all zip codes are of the same size and shape.
However, try both and see what the differences are and select the
choice that represents your home QTH. My zip code input does not show
our home. Imagine that!!

I hope that more hams will take advantage of this session on email over
radio so that more of us will be able to help with the SET and more
knowledgeable when the big one hits.
