Subject: [CALV-ARES] From CALV EC: CALV ARES Registration - Action Required

TO:  ALL CALV STATIONS

DATE:  March 10, 2012

As everyone has noticed the CALV ARES group has been hibernating since
supporting Cystic Fibrosis Cycle Event and SET 2010. That does not mean we
have been sleeping. Matter-of-fact, a lot of exciting behind the scenes
activities has been occurring to make our ARES programs more rewarding.
Here is some of what has been accomplished recently;

* Wayne Rogers/N1WR has updated the Calvert County ARES/RACES Plan and
The ARES/RACES Strategic Plan

* Wanda Montgomery/KA3AHI has been appointed to Assistant Section
Manager. As ASM she will be working with the Maryland Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene, MEMA and in the counties to bring a coordination effort
for interoperability among health departments and hospitals.

* Wanda and her husband Jim/WB3KAS will be visiting the two hospitals
in Region V to get them onboard. She will be meeting with CMH, CCHD and EOC
Emergency Manager the week of March 11.

* Steve/N3IDX is currently working getting his WinLink station
operating this weekend.

o CALV ARES Stations will then be able to connect via VHF through the
N3IDX-10 station.

As an ARES group with rusty members and new members we need some classroom
and exercise training to get everyone up to expectations. We really can use
some help with this and the best source is from you! If you have ideas on
what you would like to learn through CALV ARES please let someone on the
CALV Planning Committee know. We can reserve a room to teach, demonstrate
or make projects of any topic of your choices. Below is a list of some
ideas we have heard;

* What is ARES? How is ARES different from CARA or RACES?

* Training Nets over the 146.985/R. How often, what day and what time
should our ARES Nets occur?

* What is the Calvert ARES/RACES Operation Plan?

* What is the Calvert ARES Strategic Plan?

* What is the M-DC Section Emergency Response Plan?

* Having actual exercises - using our radios

* Traffic Handling Net training > there is a Basic Traffic Handling
Instructions (Voice) on Section Manager's homepage > http://www.arrl-mdc.net
for anyone wanting to get a head start.

*       WinLink training

* Making cables for TNC's to 2M radios.

*       More Public Service events,

up a portable station up to demonstrate WL2K. The location TBA and depends
on the weather.

*       HFHN:  Wednesday, March 21, 1930 (L) on 3.820 MHz

* ARES Second Quarter Health Care Coalition Drill on Monday, April 2,
2012.

* Check into MEPN, 1800 (L) daily. If you do not know how to do
traffic they will go slow down to help you copy.
