FCC Comments on Broadband Over Power-Line (BPL), a probable new HF
interference source, are due by July 7. For the complete story and
guidance on filing comments, see
http://www.arrl.org/news/features/2003/06/19/2/?nc=1. This is an important
issue!!
Please take a few minutes to read the above web page. This BPL issue will
more than likely kill amateur radio as we know it. Forget QRP
operations... forget weak signal work... forget working any new
countries. This BPL could very easily drive your noise level up to a
steady S-8. And, this BPL would be run by your local utility company. How
many of you have tried to get your local utility company to fix it's noisy
power lines? They can't even do that, and it is mandated by the FCC! If
they can't even fix their power line noise now, what makes you think that
they will care if BPL takes you off the air? This is just another way for
private companies to make tons of money at the cost of Hams.
Please, send in your comments to the FCC. You can bet your bippy that the
BPL companies have submitted their comments. I read that only about 1000
comments have been received on this. That is a shame. How many hams are
there out there? This will effect all of us, at least if you are active on
the radio. There ought to be 100,000 comments from the ham community. I
don't care if you hate the ARRL, this is a ham issue, not an ARRL
issue. So please, even if you are a non-technical ham or even a newly
licensed ham, send in your comments to the FCC.
Thanks for your time...
