This is important! If you thought that PRB-1 was great, then this is
awesome. We need to make sure this bill gets passed! Read the rest of the
message below. There is a link to the ARRL where you can find a sample
letter to cut and paste to your Congressman. There is also a link to find
out who your Congressman is, once you get to the ARRL site. This will take
all of 5 minutes to do, and the more people who e-mail their
Representatives, the better... So take 5 minutes right now and do
this. It may make the difference between this bill making it, or not.
Antenna Bill - H.R. 4720 Introduced in US Congress
A bill introduced in Congress May 14 would provide relief to amateurs
prevented by private CC&Rs from installing outdoor antennas. Rep Steve
Israel (D-NY) introduced the "Amateur Radio Emergency Communications
Consistency Act." The measure--H.R. 4720--would require private land-use
regulators to "reasonably accommodate" Amateur Radio antennas consistent
with the limited federal preemption known as PRB-1, which now applies only
to states, counties and municipalities.
H.R. 4720 has already been assigned to the Commerce Committee. Congressman
Israel's office is receiving a lot of interest in this bill. Now is the
ideal time to write to your own Congressman/woman and ask him/her to become
a co-sponsor of H.R. 4720. The full story on H.R. 4720 is located at:
http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2002/05/14/102/?nc=1 At the end of the
article are instructions on how to write to your Representative (using
e-mail) and a sample letter. Two key points to make are: a) the bill is
necessary for Amateur Radio to fulfill its role in Homeland Defense and b)
the bill is non-partisan. Please write today!
