[Boatanchors] BC-348 tuning shaft and worm

All: I have acquired a BC-348 receiver.  Apparently the tuning shaft is not
quite straight and the knob binds pretty hard for part of the rotation.  

1. How is the worm secured to the shaft?  Is it pinned or are there
setscrews?  This one has been pinned and there's an empty setscrew hole.

2. Does anyone know what the diameter of this shaft is? I am thinking that
replacing it may be easier than fiddling with it if it can be done easily.

3. Does someone have a scrap parts unit laying around that has a good
working tuning mechanism?
