[Boatanchors] 240V line

I would not add a single transformer in series with on leg to get the 
240 you want.  The reason is you will not have balanced lines to the 
neutral.  One leg would be nominally 150 to neutral and the other 120.  
Chances are you would need the 28-34 transformer connected to the 
neutral.  A 208/240 step up transformer with center tap would be best 
unless the neutral is not connected anywhere in the equipment and never 
will be.
