[Boatanchors] Hammarlund HQ215 BFO Issue

Guys,
A friend of mine found a "barn find"...a brand new HQ215 receiver. It was still in the original box and documentation...purchased it for $60.00 (estate sale). Now the not so good news, the BFO has intermittent operation. When it works it works smooth. At first I thought it was a bad ground but to no avail. I was wondering anyone knew of a known problem with this problem in the HQ215. I know this is a scarce radio, not many of them around.  BTW the radio works very well except for this problem. I suspect it may be a mechanical issue. The radio is in brand new condition, no corrosion.
I also am wondering if Electric Radio had any issues covering this radio. I haven't found much information.
