Subject: [Boatanchors] GONSET G-76

Hello Dale,
I have two G-78 power supplies.
One is factory with a string of 6 SSD pwr diodes
The other was converted to SSD by previous owners
Be well.

I am working on a recently acquired Gonset G-76 and P.S. A previous owner
had "worked on" the PS. Three radial leaded electrolytics simply hanging by
their leads, bleeders gone. Horrible soldering. Most odd though is the lack
of 5R4 HV rectifiers. These were normally mounted horizontally on L
brackets. In the place of the tubes are two silicon rectifier boards built
on what appears to be a professionally made terminal board with equalizing
resistors. The 5VAC 5R4 leads are there but taped off. If it were not for
the well-made rectifier boards, I would say this is another amateurish hack.
What is also missing are any dropping resistors to accommodate the lower
voltage drop of the diodes. While the LV supply does use a terminal board
with diodes, it is not the same as the HV boards and does agree with the
schematic.
Has anyone else seen this? Or can I assume this is just more junk work?

Tnx,
Dale W4OP
