Johnson never introduced a Viking Ranger 1, ver2.

Johnson introduced a Viking Ranger and later on a Viking Ranger II.

The original Ranger came with 11 meters and NO grid block keying for CW.

Shortly thereafter, Johnson introduced a modification kit to add the grid
block keying and a different bias supply. It consisted of two tubes,
circuit components, and hardware to mount the finished unit on the
chassis.

Shortly "thereafter thereafter", Johnson introduced the Ranger with the
grid block keying and bias supply on the same hardware as the
modification kit but already installed in the Ranger.

As time passed, Johnson introduced the Viking Ranger II. No 11 meters but
added 6 meters. A number of circuit changes and cosmetic changes.

I've used a 6146B in my Ranger since the 90's using either the high
voltage plate supply or the low voltage for the plate supply depending on
what amplifier I was driving. Never a problem with the 6146B.
