 Hobby stores have white plastic modeling parts that includes rods that do well for repairing the Johnson knobs.

amount of super glue on both cut ends. Keeps the end material from
flaring out.
My Ranger and Valiant had 5 missing ones when I got both of them back in
90's. Applied these sticks back then, and even with knob usage, they
haven't fallen out.
