If you want to clean contacts of gum and varnish deposits you can try
brake cleaner in an aerosol can but beware, use gloves, goggles and a
face mask and use it outside.  The stuff usually has benzene and
toluene and some other compounds and it really flushes out gunk like
tar and sludge etc. but use it minimally at arms length and stay
upwind if possible.  I've used it to clean up Bird Coaxwitches and a
filthy Dayton blower.
