Thanks to all who replied.  It is stamped on the chassis as a 5U4 and the socket is the same style as the 809 sockets, looks original. No provision for any plate cap.  I'll try a 5z3 or an 80 to see what works.  I'll measure the filament sockets to see what I read there.  Any one have documentation for it?  It was in use not to long ago and when I flipped the main power sw, lights came on behind the meter, vfo dial and the fan for the 9909 finals came on as well.  Things are looking good.Larry/w0ogh
