I can relate. I have shelves in my 16X 12 shed (for one thing) that are
stacked with parts etc. Stuff i've collected over the years from roller
inductors, variable caps, knobs, transmitting tubes, old receiving
tubes, transformers, chokes, some variacs and the list goes on. Years
and years of old QST's in their binders along with some more recent
stuff (from the 70's, 80's etc) on, a nice big stack of 73, Ham Radio
and CQ magazines, years and years of old handbooks and lots of small
parts. Box's of receiving tubes and meters, new BUD aluminum chassis
etc. Then there is the SX-96, Elmac transmitters, a power supply for the
above, rotators, control box's and some mil surplus stuff, GPR-90 in
ecellent condition, an R-388 that was restored by Howard Mills. I
forgot, my TMC PAL-500 amp with power supply (160 lbs shipping weight).
Then there is this 6 ft rack here in my shack that needs some control
work done on it, runs a 4-250 with a pair of 100TH modulators, a heavy
thing to say the least. Nothing ship able because as so many others
have said, it's getting cost prohibitive. I'm now in my 80's and don't
know when my last day is going to be. Yeah i can enjoy what i have
today but the only hams with any interest, maybe, are 80 plus miles
away. So where is it going to end up?
The thing i think about is the fact that this stuff isn't being made
anymore. Will the maybe be a day in the future when someone will be
saying "I wonder where i can find one of those things?" It will all be
in the dump, buried by tons of other garbage.
Yeah, i think about it and wonder what i can do to keep this from
happening. Maybe all for naught!
Listening to/for AM signals on 7293.
