[Boatanchors] Do Headphones Age-Away?

I've looked inside some of the really old hi-z headphones & at least one set I peeked into, the "magnet" was a u-shaped piece of what appeared to be just iron rod, rather roughly cut at the ends. Magnets like that are probably very susceptible to losing magnetism. Magnetism in soft iron like that depends on orderly arrangement of molecules but time being what it is, order slowly gives way to randomness again. If a set seems weak, maybe it's worthwhile to try removing the magnet iron & stroking it with a strong magnet to "recharge" it (hate that term). It might be possible to test the idea with an external magnet held near the receiver but you'd need to know where the external magnet poles were so as to orient it for best effect.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Do Headphones Age-Away?
I have a set of Featherlight 12,000 Ohm headphones
I've had since I was a young boy. They were "sensitive"
for crystal radio sets, giving lots of volume (for phones).
Now, they're pretty weak.
Is anyone familiar with this "aging" of Hi-Z phones,
why it happens and if anything can be done about it?
