A lot of the FT243s are/were surplus, but they were still manufactured into the 60s and maybe 70s. Petersen, Texas Crystals, etc. By the way, the ones AF4K restuffed generally held up well with tube oscillators. Amazing how those tiny crystals work. I’ve only lost one out of a dozen or more, and it failed right outta the gate, started out for a second where it should have been, then went up the band into never-never land. Rest all work well. Don’t thing I’d try them in a Tri-tet oscillator though….
I’ve picked up a few more tiny ones, inexpensive, from Nightfire Electronics (https://vakits.com/catalog/crystals) and packaged them into out of band FT243s, and they work well.

But arent those all surplus crystals?
Is anyone making just the FT-243 crystal these days?. Holders are
everywhere. I dont mean a tiny crystal stuffed in those holders which is
what Carling did.
