BTW what are people using to measure the crystal frequency? Are they just putting it in circuit? Or using some excitation and frequency counter?

Just wanted to say "thanks again" to all of you who contributed your knowledge about grinding and etching crystals.

My success rate for both grinding and
etching have greatly improved.  In fact, I just successfully moved an FT-243 from 4280 KC up to 4340 KC for use in a BC-611.  That's *60 KC.*  Not bad.
Etched it for the first 40 KC, then ground it the rest of the way.  Fixed a dead 3465 KC with a small crack by edge-grinding out the crack, then ground it up to 3507.  Sweet.
