In general I agree and welds are the professional standard, but
lightning protection as with many things is a matter of cost v.
probability. If I had a tall tower in Fla., I'd probably do cadwelds.
But low dipoles on the west coast where lightning is less likely,
I'd say cadwelds on everything would be overkill.
