I never thought about that but it makes sense, now. I bet there were times when that expectation for needing to look great left me admiring the articles & pictures but unmotivated to try the project myself. Didn't understand why Dad was content to throw parts into just any old thing for a chassis. I still think my imagination is tainted by the urge to make homebrew look manufactured.
