It should be possible to fabricate a plug without throwing away a
piezo electric crystal and its contact plates and spring.  Even if it
is not on a ham band I have a problem with discarding any radio part
that isn't made now.  It might be useful in some unforeseen way or a
harmonic may be in a ham band.  Some folks are pretty good at lapping
them into a ham band.
