Big band music continued to be popular through the 1950s, not
oldies but new music. Rock & Roll got its start because of a
boycot of broadcasters by ASCAP. See:

Once BMI got started it made continuing inroads. Eventually
stations found R&B popular. Between the ASCAP boycot and the
musician's union boycot of recorded music the music industry
screwed itself. This is forgotten history now but both of these
actions had long lasting effect.
Kenosha was close to Chicago within the primary coverage
areas of stations in Chicago and Milwaukee. Would have had a
crowded broadcast dial especially at night.
