The Ranger is a decent radio. I’ve restored, put in a few mods, and used half a dozen of them. I like the Viking II better than the Viking I, but both are nice radios. The Viking II is arguably one of the best and most solid radios Johnson (or anyone else, including the venerated Collins) produced in it’s power class. In a choice between the Viking and a 32V-something I’d take the Johnson any day — it will keep on trucking long after the others are spending most of their time on the bench.
Opinions of course, and we all have them :-)
