You need to check your facts. The 1918 flu pandemic started in Europe and gained a foothold in the trenches of the war. It started in 1917 peaked in 1918 and continued strong into 1919. It did not get to the US or Kansas, until late 1918. Some sources say the origin most likely was eastern Russia, Mongolia or northern China.

Since the 1918 Flu, which kill an estimated 50,000,000 people worldwide
likely originated in Kansas, I suppose we should start calling it the
American Flu.
