Before we trash all of our SR-160's I think we need to consider what it was really intended for. It was designed as an entry level product into the emerging field of SSB. To keep it simple it was made a three-bander on the three most popular bands. It's only bell and whistle was RIT. It was a base station that could go mobile. You could dress it up a little, for $24 you could add internal calibrator. As for CW operation for $44.95 you could add the HA-16 VOX adaptor. The documentation and sales publications of the time made it clear that if you wanted to do CW you needed the HA-16.
My observations have been it is a great little radio, but it must be refurbished properly and used as it was intended. If you are not skilled at working on point to point wired equipment, take it to some one who is.
Every thing you ever wanted to know about the SR-160:

Have you ever noticed, the harder you work the more hard work there is to be done.

Hi Rich
I used t have one of those and while it was a fun radio on SSB, it sucked
on CW (if you like that mode). Mine had a bad chirp that I could never get
rid of. I was into a lot of CW traffic nets then so it was imperative that
I had a good CW setup. Got rid of it and bought a Drake TR-3 and never
looked back. That was a neat radio I used on SSB, CW and RTTY (afsk) 73
