[Boatanchors] BC 221 Heresy

Several years ago I used perhaps 90 percent of a BC221 and converted/built
a dandy regen receiver into it. Amazing stable performance with an rf
preamp, several audio stages and the octal 1 meg crystal package lent
itself to being the socket for the coils.
Using the existing frequency meter only required a small handful of parts
and covers from MF to about 15 megs.
The circuit was an adaptation of MR REGEN (sk cannot remember his name and
he published in ER) and uses a 6c4 as the regen detector.
I use a second 221 as a frequency counter. Great fun at almost 0 cost.

don't want to get into the scrap-or-keep controversy, but if you are asking
about valuable parts
in the BC-221, and also the LM frequency meter, the variable capacitor with
its 100:1 drive is highly sought after by builders of regenerative
receivers.? Arnie Coro, CO2KK highly recommends them in his posts to the
REGENRX group and on his "DXers unlimited" program on Radio Havana.
Happy Thanksgiving, Mike W6MAB
