[Boatanchors] Boatanchors BC 221 heresy

Hi Brian,
I would hold off scrapping/salvaging/organ harvesting those as long as
you can. I thought about something similar for mine. The most useful
parts are the tuning mechanism including the tuning cap to build a
wonderful VFO. In fact, it already is a wonderful VFO. Replacing the
wonderful VFO in a BC-221 or LM (I have LMs) with a DDS would be ideal.
So my plan is to build a modern heterodyne frequency meter with all the
capabilities of the LM (or it's little brother BC-221) with a DDS at the
heart. I suspect due to tuning steps instead of continuously variable
tuning there will still be a need for interpolation/extrapolation. But
it should be quicker and easier. Building such a device can extend the
concept of the LM and BC-221 another 100 years.
Since you are already admiring the DDS those wonderful VFO parts will
not be much use to you. Museums need only so many. It is not looking
good for all those heterodyne frequency meters. A moment of silence
please. <head bowed>

Any interesting stuff hardware wise (electronics I doubt there is much), but if there is good variable gear stuff or whatnot I guess I might be wise to hold on to anything 'good and interesting'.
