Check C19, C21 and C22. If you touch the cathode of V2 with a meter lead and the LO shifts then C19 is bad.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Harvey Wells R-9A

Has anyone in the group worked on an R-9 or R-9A? Alignment proceeds as normal until I get to 40M- rf/osc/mix. The oscillator should be 1.62MHz above the dial frequency, but I cannot get it any lower than about 3.5MHz above. The L-C all looks good and the tank C is as specified. From what I can determine, the inductors from the higher bands appear in parallel as one goes lower in bands (frequency). 10, 15 and 20M all aligned well and I can align 80M, although it will change once I get 40M aligned.

Any insight appreciated,

Dale W4OP
