Due to the possibility of Mark not being able to restart Transformer
Rewinding, I started looking around for someone else who could fill the void
just in case. In years past electric motor shops would rewind transformers
and they were common in almost every town over 4,000 people. Most of them
are now closed but a few still are around. I searched for that kind of
business in this area after a couple of phone calls found a place in
Oklahoma City that will do any transformer you have.
However, its major business is the big stuff. They do work for the FAA,
Oklahoma Gas and Electric and numerous electric Coops in this part of the
world. It is an individual owned business and I asked him if they could
determine the specs from a diagram or impedance figures to which he said his
last employee who could retired recently at 84. However, they would take a
transformer and disassemble it, count the turns and taps then reconstruct
it, Needless to say that is an expensive process in time and material.
He said he has performed that service recently but it cost quite a bit and
would still take in work but the price would be quote only. So if we loose
the TRS replacement, it will be a bad deal. Hammond will furnish a
transformer for our special needs, but it will be expensive too as we have
seen. He was a real nice guy and invited me to visit the next time I am in
OKC. I wish I could convince him of the possibility of having at least one
employee doing this kind of work and that of other commercial entities. I
would bet he could support at least one, if not two or three employees as
Peter Dahl did.
I am crying in my beer. I know a ham who needs a power transformer for the
modulator deck of a Globe King 400. He has been waiting for the new TRS and
he, like me, sure hopes it comes on line soon.

No; I wasn't addressing that specific set.
If you look at the price lists, you'll see most of the
transformers are more expensive than the typical
open-market value of the rig for which it was intended.
i.e. IIRC, a transformer for an Echophone- less
radio than an S-38- was $140.
"Sentimental Value" can be a factor, but buying
a $140 transformer for a $40 radio is not
economically sound.
