[Boatanchors] QUESTION ABOUT LOW VOLTAGE CHOKE ON JOHNSON TRANSMITTERS

Here is a question. I have a used EFJ Valiant here that probably has a power supply issue - I have yet to plug it back in and see where the smoke is coming from. Happened once, I guess a second time would be OK if the smoke shows where the issue is...rough way of troubleshooting I know.
Anyhow, in looking at it I think that maybe there is an issue with the Low Voltage Choke...the wiring next to it under the 5V4 rectifier socket seems a bit waxy..... the manual says this is a 10 Henry choke and the EFJ part number is 22.749.
Now... I happen to have a junker EFJ Ranger chassis...missing the VFO and dial and some other parts, but power transformers and chokes are still there. So I wondered.. can I use that junker choke. The manual for the Ranger says it is the same part number, 22.749, but it is indicated as being 15 Henry. Same part number in both manuals, but each says a different choke inductance. Just makes me curious.
Any idea of the discrepancy in values between these numbers? It would be nice to think that the junker chassis choke would work if it turned out the Valiant needed a new LV choke. I believe a Hammond choke 159P does he job...about $41... if I needed one I sure would like to buy it in Canada where they are made rather than have to ship from USA and need to build up a shopping list for free shopping. Might need to sweet-talk someone at DigiKey on that.
tnx from a tubie newbie
