[Boatanchors] Help with a Power Supply

Greetings All,
Acquired a hefty 0-40 volt, 0-50 amp transformer power supply probably made
in the late 70's. Beautiful construction but there is a problem in the
regulator circuitry.
Anyone on the list familiar with high current power supplies? I need
suggestions for a modern replacement for the pass transistors.
Sorry for the aside post, although it does not have tubes, its definitely a
boatanchor!  Also, there are a lot of very smart dudes on this list. Thanks,
