[Boatanchors] amp question

The first thing I'd do is put the T-60 on a dummy load and measure its
carrier power. Then modulate the carrier and look at the mod.
envelope on a scope and see if it is fully modulated, and looks
linear, i.e. pretty much looks like a clean full modulated AM signal.
If you can't get that far, ditch it and find a Ranger or some other AM
rig. It will probably be a modulation dependent carrier rig like
other novice rigs and that's okay, but distortion isn't.

If you get this far, then I'd forget about a sweep tube linear and
consider something like a grid driven 4-1000A with the T-60 running
just a few watts perhaps padded down, or grounded grid cathode driven
(not as much power out though).

But to be honest, I'd save a lot of grief and labor (unless you enjoy
futzing) with this and look for a DX-100 or Viking 1 with an outboard
VFO.
