David - are these DC34 and DC35 crystals you are using or what? Those (and other) larger crystals are a lot of fun and very few people build with htem any more.
Glad to hear about your interesting BC-669 project!

Subject: [Boatanchors] Crystal Holder Pressure

Building a mock-up of the Transmit crystal
oscillator in the BC-669 transmitter. Going to
etch a bunch of large-blank crystals up to usable
freqs. The mock-up will have an open, horizontal
crystal holder to accept the blanks to check them
for freq and activity as the etching progresses.
The blank goes into the open holder which connects
one side of the blank and a weighted plate goes on
the top of the crystal blank, to simulate putting
it back in the holder.

Question: Does anyone have an idea how much
weight should press-down on the crystal blank to
correctly simulate the holder? Incorrect pressure
on the blank can move the operation point several
KC. Could find this by "trial and error," but
does anyone have any good information on this?
