Even the rich and famous that are ever so busy with other social things like a good electronic device to explore the world with!
Really no surprise! From my childhood out on the Peninsula I would walk into many homes and there was a Hammerlund or Halicrafters tucked in a book case in a den, study or even front room!
And think about it... if you are an astute world or industry leader and want to hear what other countries are talking about... (although the stories from radio Havana of average Americans supplementing their diet with dog food were hopefully BS!)
And heck it is just fun to spin the dials and listen!!!

Back in the early 70's, my dad N6UC and I used to go to lunch on Fridays quite often and we would also stop in at Henry Radio in Anaheim. We lived in Orange County, California. One time we were in there, I was out in the front part of the store looking at stuff when my dad grabbed me and said come here and dragged me into the new equipment showroom. He pointed to this guy hunched over some radio. The guy was really sloppy looking with greasy hair and wearing a dirty white tee shirt with holes in it.
What I said? That's Marlon Brando. Sure it is dad as I laughed and walked back to the front of the store. About 15 minutes later I went back into the show room and I walked over to where he had been sitting and there was a sold tag on a very expensive piece of gear that said "Sold to Marlon Brando." I don't remember what the unit was but it was in the thousands of dollars and this was around 1971 or 1972.
If you could never find him on qrz.com, it was because he spelled his name MARTIN BRANDEAUX FO5GJ. He is still listed under that call.
