Hi. This is less boatanchor than putt-putt anchor... HI.
It appears I might be able to acquire an EICO 720... about a 60 watt Novice rig. I see A-OK reviews of it such as the few there are.. Wireless Girl likes it OK, FWIW. I had QSO with a guy who was using one a bit back and it had piqued my curiousity.
Anyhow, for its age it looks OK in the photos.. and the p/s caps have been replaced and rectifier moved from tube to solid state.
The one question I have that is not electrical or radio operations oriented is physical. I am not a collector so blemishes are OK, and the perforated metal chassis cage paint looks OK, as does the front bezel. A bit of wear around the knobs on the face-plate, again to be expected after all these years and dragging fingers.
The one thing - small - is that the lower part of the meter (bottom, around the adjusting screw) seems to have flaked off some of its paint. I think there IS a plastic cover over it... so I guess its just a case of the paint releasing from the metal (paint on bare metal ? paint on primer?
Anyone have ideas on whether it is advisable to paint this area... I am not sure I would want to remove it and mask due to the screw.. maybe just take the plastic cover off.. and do a light brush stroke with an enamel (or matte) paint. Matte might show brush work less I submit for consideration.
I'd want to paint OVER (again, not going overboard with removing existing paint). But I thought.. well the old idea of Testors model paint for touching up scratched areas of metal might do the job and I would not be seeing that particular 'defect' --- or replace that anxiety by staring at my messy brushstroke work.. HI.
Tnx.. gives me something to 'worry' about.... while the guy ships and before I receive. Or maybe I will just go look at the blemishes on existing gear here now and say "What, me worry?" - Alfred E. Neuman.
