About the modified 1625s used in the amp is new information to me, thanks Rodger.
Apart from the amp using the 1625s, which I have a few of, other points that appealed to me are that it seemed to be built to work with the CE 20A (an ongoing project). But I am open to, and I'm not in a hurry, looking around for a repairable and affordable used commercially made or HB one. As 220V isn't available in the hamshack, and I don't think I'd need more than a couple hundred watts (only my IC703 and K2/10 to drive it with), a modest amplifier would be enough.

The 1625 tubes used in the 400 series amps were modified by sawing an access hole in the base and disconnecting the suppressor grid at the base so that they could run in full GG operation; NOTE some 1625 tubes have the shorting connection to the cathode inside the envelope and cannot be modified so be careful if you buy one of these amps that the spare tubes that you acquire can be modified for use in GG service.

In many of the models, they used a surplus filter that was also run a bit over its voltage rating but those oil filled caps were very conservatively rated and they seem to hold up OK to a little abuse.
