I haven’t run across any magazine ads for one but Kelvin primarily sold directly to schools so they wouldn’t have advertised in typical ham oriented magazines.  Kelvin is still in business and still sales electronic kits and other educational stuff for schools.  http://kelvin.com/electronics/
