Thanks to all that replied.

I clipped the open diode out, it actually
was cracked, and tack soldered a 1N914 in its
place. This got the transmitter functioning.

The carrier suppression is not as good as it could
be, the pot is at one end of its range, but even so,
it has about 25db of suppression.


I'll be ordering some replacement diodes next week
and replace them the right way, and now on to the
rest of the radio. Still needs an alignment.

This transmitter came to me as a parts unit, I think
I found out the reason why.
