[Boatanchors] Heath VF-1

It looks, after the overnight comments, that the groups are pretty much split down the middle, with using the mod version based on stability, and rebuilding for originality. Based on some comments by W7EKB regarding that, his VF-1 drifted just over 80 HZ on 40M in an hour. I can live with that! My 1940 mil GO-9 does about that, and it’s older than me (not by much). Some of my other VFOs aren’t nearly as good. I think the quality of the constructor has as much to do with stability in this thing as the electronics, so after I play with the mod version I’m going to rebuild. The important N750 (ceramic types) and NPO caps are still there, so I should be good to go. I’m a little drifty, so why shouldn’t my VFO be also?

Thanks to all who commented on both sides. All well said, well considered, lots of good info, exactly what I would have expected from this group.

73, and all have an awesome day!
