That is exactly right, Ron, this gear was years ahead of its time,
technically.   They achieved pretty good results with the technology
that was available at the time, but of course now we can do similar
things much easier and with greater precision and performance.   If
you've built an R2PRO you're an ideal candidate to have 20A on the air
as well.    While there's not a lot of traffic, the CE list is where
you'll find the people who are most knowledgable about this gear:

And there's a dedicated website just for CE history and information:

If you end up needing parts, these are the places to look or ask.

Some of those who have been getting together for the past six years at
the former home of Wes Schum, W9DYV (SK), the founder of Central
Electronics W9DYV,  had the chance to meet him while he was still with
us, one of the last remaining true pioneers from the boatanchor era of
ham radio.   Wes and his ingenious engineer Joe Batchelor were building
phasing type transmitters and broadband no-tune amplifiers in the 1950s
and it really wasn't until the evolution of the SDR that the industry
caught up.

I'm a little south of you, but the advent of cooler weather marks what
we call "the return of radio weather" ;-)
